At the "Philosophie & Immunologie" seminar

Yesterday, I attended a seminar of philosophy and immunology series. The speaker was Dr. Bartlomiej Swiatczak of SEMM in Milan. The title of the seminar was "Modular architecture of immune recognition in the gut". This topic is one of the most interesting areas in immunology now. His initial question is how the immune system discriminates pathogenic and mutualistic microorganisms. The answer at the present time seems to be complicated and more work needs to be done.

Dr. Swiatczak & Dr. Gerard Eberl (Institut Pasteur)

This series usually invites a discussant and Dr. Gerard Eberl served well as this role yesterday. Discussion extended to the fundamental problems such as definition of pathogenicity and how to view the immune system. Because it was a relaxed but stimulating meeting, I could also participate in the discussion. This was the final seminar of this season.
